WHAT IS YOGA?

There are many other forms of yoga, besdies Ashtanga but they all eventualy lead to the same state of being and living in the present moment

'Yoga' is a word from Sanskript, the original literary language of India. The word derives from the root yuj, which has two traditional complimentary meanings. The first meaning ’to unite' and the second 'to converge the mind, and to bring two things together’.

Through the coming together of the physical body and the mind, yoga attempts to create a state in which we are always present. Being able to pay attention and observe our direction, enables us to reach greater places. Eventually the impossible becomes possible.

'Yoga is the ability to direct the mind exclusively toward an object &

sustain that direction without any distractions'

The practise of asanas and pranayama, that is, the physical postures and breathing exercises of yoga, we are able to influence our whole system. Ridding ourselves of emotional blocks and impurities, whilst at the same time gaining so many benefits. If we are healthy, know more about ourselves, and improve the reality of our actions, we will make fewer mistakes and participate more fully in life. Achieving yoga as a state of being leads to a change for the better in all aspects of our life.

Yoga is not an external experience, we experience it deep within our being. We are not creating something for others to look at. As we perform asanas we are observing and becoming more aware of what we are doing. In yoga we try in every action to be as attentive as possible to all that we do, and in doing so we are integrating our body, breath and mind.
